Blue Valentine
Watched it tonight and well, I kinda love it.
Am I morbid for liking it as much as I do? Yes, its a sad story. Yes, there's more cursing and sexual crud than I care for, but the overall package was good. The acting was even better. The story was raw, and honest. What might be really weird is that I saw Matt and I in certain parts of the film... or rather, what Matt and I could easily become if we don't keep up the hard work that marriage is and continue to fall in love with each other over and over again. Relationships are hard, marriage is even harder, but dammit - my man and I are committed!
The two lead characters in the film, Dean and Cindy, fell in love young and over time, their love dwindled to almost nothing. They didn't maintain their relationship as they grew older, welcomed a child, hit the bumps that come with life. I don't see similarities with my own marriage there of course, but I see how such things could push two people apart.
I'm so thankful for the man that I'm married to and for the unblemished character that lies deep within him. He's not perfect, but my sweet boy is perfect for me. He loves me so well and together, I know we won't let ourselves end up like Dean and Cindy. We're in this for the long haul and I couldn't be more pleased about that.

Glad to hear this. I haven't seen it yet but I appreciate when movies portray reality and how you have to fight for and continually work on your marriage. There is no "happily ever after" and I think people believe that it should be, or at least movies make it seem that way. Then, the other typical portrayal is that once isn't happy or the other person isn't perfect, then you opt out. This makes me want to add it to my Netflix queue!
