Jonathan: 1 month

Oh, Baby Boy. I'm already dropping the ball in recording your little life. I'm sorry.

You're closer to two months old now, but here I am, just getting around to writing about you at one month! I have little notes jotted down around the house from your first weeks of life which is what I'm referring to now. Thank goodness for my Post-its, otherwise I'd forget all the cutesy details in years to come!

You've been a joy, Jonathan. Truly. Its funny how easily I'd forgotten how helpless and needy a newborn babe is and therefore, how much work goes into caring for one. But I don't mind, not one bit. You are my sweet, sweet little man and often the easiest part of my day. Your sister has adjusted beautifully to being a big sister and loving on you, but has had a harder time getting used to the change of things at home, the lack of attention she can get from your papa or me and she's also just three. There have been many tantrums, lots of yelling and screaming and sadly, I fear that you might think that this is what life sounds like on the outside all the time. You're probably thinking "Man, it sure is loud out here. Why did I come out of that womb again?" I promise you, honey, it won't always be this chaotic.

Things to remember:
  • At your 1 month check up you weighed 8 pounds, 4 ounces. Woo hoo!
  • You are such a smiley little boy. Maybe its just gas, like everyone says, but maybe you're really meaning to smile. I know you don't know you're doing it yet and you probably can't even see me when I think its me you're smiling at, but you're so happy. And not only do you smile while asleep or awake, you giggle too and there have been times where you've giggled yourself out of sleep and its the most adorable thing. I forgot how much I love toothless baby smiles and Lovey, you've got a great one!
  • Like Big Sis, you're not a huge fan of time on your tummy, but you'll get there. Lucky for you, you have Zachari who likes laying on the floor next to you. She talks to you and "tickles" you and gives you a distraction from what it is you're actually doing. You two are so cute lying next to each other on the floor, by the way.
  • Also like your sister, you've got plugged tear ducts on both sides and you produce quite a bit of what what call "eye goop" throughout the day. I massage your eyes with warm cloths and from time to time I squirt some breast milk right in there so no worries. In no time at all you'll be all healed up!
  • You like your papa and you two often pace the floors for a while each night. Its precious and I hope I can remember to snap a picture of you two together soon. He holds you up against his chest, often swaddled, and bounces you or walks back and forth til you fall asleep. Sometimes all I can see is one of your eyes peering out from under your papa's large hand as he pulls your head close to his body. Its a beautiful thing, you two together.
  • You have some room to grow into your skin, Babe! You have saggy knees and elbows that will soon get filled in with fat. I can't wait!
  • Your long fingers have equally as long nails and you've got quite the grip! Zachari loves holding your hand when you're upset as a way to calm you down and its so sweet when it actually works!
  • You, my boy, are no stranger to the g-a-s. My word! You belch like a teenage boy at times and I feel like its coming straight up from your toes. And the gas from the other end of ya? Talk about Farty Pants! Your sister thinks its hilarious when you fart and your papa think its a hoot as well. I'm not sure why, but he'll often smirk and say something like "That's my boy!" when you burp or fart. Why on earth would someone take such pride in something like that? One of the many things I'll never understand about menfolk, I suppose.
  • I love when you round out your mouth when you're done eating. We have one picture of Zachari doing the same thing, it was one of my favorite little quirks about her and you do it too!
  • In the first couple days of your life, you made a little tug boat kind of a noise when you breathed. I think it was due to all the excess fluid inside of you from delivery. Now you make more of a Little Engine That Could sort of noise. Cute.

You're pretty easy to please, Jonathan. All you want is milk and touch and beyond that, you seem like you could care less. You sleep through any and everything, you have a pleasant and easy-going disposition and your eyes are so warm and sweet. You like being held a lot actually and so the Ergo has become my new best friend. We've spent lots of time skin to skin, but I wish I made more time for that more often.

You've been a fantastic addition to the Blinn family and you've brought us incredible joy. I love you, Little One and I'm excited to see what the next month of your life will bring!
