On Thursday night I went to my first ballet.
It. Was. Excellent.
Edward Clug's Radio & Juliet, the classic Shakespeare story set to the soundtrack of all Radiohead songs. Are you kidding me? Could there be a more perfect union? A more perfect date for me and my boy? I've wanted to go to the ballet for years, but its not quite Blinn's thing. Radiohead is his favorite band, so perfect, right? Well, sorta.
I was totally into it (as was Kristina who joined us), but the too-short-for-me, hour-long peice was about all my love could handle. I'll pat him on the back for going at all, esepcially since he wanted to be at the Central VIneyard Men's Night instead. The things we do for love.
I loved the entire thing, but I think my favorite was the transition - both visually and audiblly - between the songs "Idioteque" and "Like Spinning Plates". The lights were brilliant, the simplicity was perfect, the songs were powerful, the movement was fluid, sharp and magnetic. So freaking good.
This is a great review of the piece and explains more about the director's take on the literary classic as well as gives info about Radiohead as a band. Their song "Motion Picture Soundtrack" has been in my head ever since Thursday. SUCH a good show! Oh Thom Yorke, I loved you before, but now my heart has a deeper appreciation for you and the boys. I think I'm blushing...
So I assume the music playing in the You Tube is Radiohead. How did I not know that? When I went to see Without Words (the interpretive dance about the sex trade) this summer, they used that song and others like it. You would have loved it! Aren't dancer's bodies incredible?! Not in a check-them-out kind of way. Just a real, wow-that's-amazing kind of thing. So glad you go to experience this!
