Jonathan: 11 months

Buddy, you're getting so close to your birthday! You, of course, have no idea what birthdays are yet, but they're so fun and its a special reason for the ones who love you to celebrate your blessed life! In the last month you've been up to lots and lots - some things good, some things pretty mischevious - but you've been great to be around! Here's what you are like now:

  • Foods that you enjoy include: Aunt Amy's meatloaf, Trader Joe's spinach and kale bites, clementines, rolled oats, pork loin, asparagus, the North Star burger, Mama's chicken curry, Bob's Red Mill gluten-free cornbread, tater tots, cinnamon raisin bagels, mangoes, Trader Joe's smoked apple chardonnay chicken sausage, snap peas, and pumpkin pie.
  • Foods you're not such a fan of? Salmon and yogurt. Actually, you liked yogurt alright, but your bum did not. :(
  • On November 10th you and Sister were dedicated at Central Vineyard and it was a great morning! Papa and I took you two before the entire congregation and our family and friends and committed to loving you the best we know how, to teaching you the ways of Jesus, to being transparent human beings before you, to raising you in the ways of the church. All your aunts and uncles in the immediate family were there (except Lisa's fam who is out in CA) as well as your grandparents, the Setals and the (Aaron) MacCaugheys. There were probably around 40 people who came forward to pray over you and Zachari Jane and it was such a sweet time for Papa and I. Our family is loved and we're loved so well, Jonathan. I'm excited for you to grow up and learn what that's like first hand. My prayer for your sister and you is that as you grow up, you'll know what it is to have true, lasting friendships and that the Lord would sustain you with those relationships through the ups and downs of life. Our family is wonderful too and while I can complain about them in a heartbeat, I really have much to be thankful for.
  • You've started to swat at who or what you don't want. Its probably kind of rude by some people's standards, but I find it cute. Biased Mama, I know.
  • When others are yelling, you yell too and try imitating their sounds! You hear lots of yelling because of Sister's antics or me calling to Papa from two rooms away for this or that. Maybe we should all work on the tone of our voices a bit... for your sake, at least.
  • In the theme of loud noises though, when you want more food at meal time or you feel like you need more attention, you holler until you're satisfied. Hmph. Let's work on some patience and sign language, Buddy.
  • You're truly a waving little man these days! Its a little like the sign for milk with your hand tilted sideways and you kind of wave more to yourself than to others, but its adorable and I don't have the heart to show you otherwise.
  • On November 8th you got to meet Jenny Szink and you saw Wendy Hutcheson for the second time in your life. They were in town for my 10 year college reunion and we enjoyed North Star Cafe with them.
  • You give kisses! So far, its just me that you kiss and its only been at night when you're really needy and feeling more cuddly. I'll take it... open mouth, wet, silly-looking and all!
  • You enjoy dumping containers out and really taking any thing out of any space. Between you and Sis and any friends that we have over, you guys can make a big mess in no time nowadays! When will you start to learn to clean up after yourself? Putting things into a container is just as fun as dumping the stuff out. Don't you know that?
  • In a 24 hour period of time you nurse 5-7 times.
  • When you're done eating or just don't like the food you've been given, you very discreetly drop it from your highchair. Almost always with your right hand and you do it so fast that no one's realized you've done it til we see the messy floor beneath you. You loon!
  • Kim got you an elephant shape-sorter toy and you like to use the lid of it - that's all holey so you can put things through it - to play peek-a-boo. We have to say "Where's Jon-Jon?" (or something like it) and then you'll move the lid from your face and giggle. Love. It.
  • Sometimes you'll put your hand in my mouth and you try to control my head. You crack up. You're pretty strong and it doesn't really take much for you to manipulate my head in the ways you want it to go. One is rather vulnerable when another has their hands inside their mouths, ya know?
  • You discovered the light switch in your room and can turn it off. You cry when that happens because apparently, you don't enjoy the dark except for sleeping times. Sister often comes to the rescue and turns it back on for you. We've had to move your bed over a bit though so you can't reach it so easily because soon you'll learn to switch it to on and we don't want you exploring that when you're supposed to sleeping.
  • You go up the stairs all. the. time. We need to get a gate or two. We're cheap, we haven't gotten anything yet. Its silly though because you wear us out every time you escape and its not even safe. Get with the program, Mama and Papa!
  • Some of my favorite things about you: No one makes you laugh like Zachari does. It brings me so much joy to see you two together; You do this rapid crawl when you've been caught doing something you shouldn't. You look back to see if someone's gonna get you and you laugh, which makes your crawl all crooked and sometimes you run into things. You devious little man!; Sometimes you chew on your cheek or your tongue. I don't know why, but I think its cute; You still just have one lone tooth and I like it that way. Your (mostly) toothless smile melts me.
